Like anything else, whether it be brick & mortar shops or online businesses- they fail when they are stuck in the past & refuse to evolve to remain competitive.
In the virtual world, you'd be the small hardware store downtown that bitches about the big box stores, instead of doing something about the situation to remain competitive.
