I doubt we will ever see a true 'world war' ever again. The problems in the middle east have been going on for the last 2000 years, and they probably will 'till a terrorist gets a big nuke and turns the holy land to a nice parking lot. Even then, the factionalism and religious fervor will keep people fighting till the end of our species.
