Japan warned about possible U.S. base attack
TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Transport Ministry has been told of a possible attack by a small chartered plane on the U.S. Yokota air base near Tokyo, a ministry official said, but the U.S. embassy denied any knowledge of any planned attack.
The ministry official told Reuters he had received the information from a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration official at the U.S. embassy, who had said he had been informed by Japanese police.
It was not clear when the attack would have taken place.
An embassy spokesman denied the embassy was the source of any such information about a potential attack.
"It did not come from us. We have no indication that there is any such plane. It is not true," an embassy spokeswoman said.
The U.S. military could not be reached for comment.
The Transport ministry official said the ministry had notified airports around Japan about the information, although it had not alerted Japan's airforce.
Don't worry tenletters..you were just reporting what the 'news' was saying.
I have to say CNN is king of speculation and the other networks are following it. Journalists should never utter the words 'unconfirmed reports'..get conformation.
