A NEW report has linked the abuses at Abu Ghraib prison directly to a decision by US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to employ secret and aggressive interrogation methods in Iraq.

According to the report by investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, to be published today in New Yorker magazine, Mr Rumsfeld established the covert interrogation program for use against hard-core terror suspects in Afghanistan.
