A Message from Sony...
In response to the tragic attacks on New York City and Washington, DC, Sony Corporation Tokyo and Sony Corporation of America on behalf of our U.S. operating companies -- Sony Electronics Inc., Sony Music Entertainment Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. -- will be making an immediate contribution of $4 million to relief organizations that are working so heroically in rescue and recovery efforts.
Specifically, $3 million will be earmarked to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund (New York Chapter;
http://www.redcross.org). We will donate another $1 million to the New York City Public Private Initiatives (NYCPPI;
http://home.nyc.gov/volunteer.html), which aids the families of Police, Fire, EMS and other City employees involved in rescue efforts.
This is the first step that we will be taking to aid those affected directly by the horrible events on Tuesday. Citizens of New York and indeed, citizens of the world who believe in freedom and democracy, are in debt to those who labor fearlessly in the dust and rubble to help clear the debris that has thrown a cloud over our lives.
Sony?s global family shares a profound sense of loss after such a tragedy, but we will not be slowed in our efforts to assist in the recovery effort and comfort those who lost a loved one.
