8:45am
A 767 jet crashes into the south tower of the World Trade Centre in New York City, exploding into flame.
9:03am
Another plane heads straight into the north tower of the same structure, causing a second massive fire. It?s later revealed both planes were hijacked. American Airlines identified the planes that crashed into the Trade Centre as Flight 11, a Los Angeles-bound jet hijacked after takeoff from Boston with 92 people aboard, and Flight 77, which was seized while carrying 64 people from Washington to Los Angeles.
9:35am
Reports come in of another plane crashing into the west wing of the Pentagon in Washington. All U.S. government buildings in the American capital ? including the White House ? are evacuated.
10:05am
Officials say a car bomb appears to have exploded near the Pentagon on the popular Washington Mall.
10:15am
Authorities say a plane has crashed near Camp David, Maryland. It was believed to also be headed for the Pentagon.
10:35am
The famous Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre collapse and fall from the New York skyline, after being heavily damaged. It?s believed the crashed planes may also have had bombs on board, furthering the damage.
10:53am
A plane crashes about 140 kilometres from Pittsburgh. The jet is subsequently confirmed to be United Airlines Flight 93, a Boeing 757 en route from Newark, N.J., to San Francisco, with 45 people on board.
11:38am
All flights in the U.S. are cancelled, and all flights at Pearson Int?l. Airport are stopped until further notice. The airport braces for diverted American planes currently in the air.
