My father fought in the Korean War when he was in his 20's. He stayed in the Army Reserves (part time) afterwards for his entire life and eventually rose to the rank of Colonel and was high up in the Selective Service which handles the draft and related recruitment issues.
I remember after Vietnam ended he used to say the quality of the people that were enlisting in the army was degrading really bad and the DoD was getting concerned that down the road it would become a significant problem and lead to the overall deterioration of our forces.
Looks like that might be the case now.
