The guards are certainly outnumbered, they need to exercise their authority to stay in control.

I doubt these pows were captured while trying to attack the prison. Most likely the guards have no need to even load their guns.
My point was:
These prisoners didn't shoot at the guards, and the guards have had total control of them every second they've been confined. These prisoners most likely have not been a threat to the guards at any point.
..to continue and reply to someone saying that this was common practice before interrogation.

Too bad none of the guards were trained for the interrogation techniques, did you guys read the report?
