Europe was utterly devastated by WWII and the U.S. pumped in funds to rebuild the continent. They didn't just give people money, but got busy re-building manufacturing, hospitals, schools, housing and helped prop up the governments financially.
And I've read in so many places and have heard from so many pundits both political and sociological that one of the main reasons Muslims hate the United States IS because of it's wealth and because of all the opportunites that exist in our country.
So while they might be dying for "God/Allah", I'm willing to bet that a great many of them would stop the terrorism if they found themselves in markedly better living conditions monetarily.
Hey, even asshole himself Bin-Laden is offering GOLD to people who kill American soldiers etc. Saddam was even giving money to the families of suicide bombers in Palestine (though I'd REALLY like to know how much those people actually got from him.)
So while we may think that money does NOT talk in the Middle East, I think it really does..especially at the right amount!
