It's only a matter of time before the internet is broken up into different zones around the world. Each country will have it's own reasons for supporting this.
A world that becomes more dependant upon the internet helps the move towards globalization, and the western world won't allow this.
Then you've got China, who thinks American's should be arrested for putting certain things online. There are other countries with similar beliefs including Germany and France. American tourist is nabbed at the airport for what he printed online? It'll happen.
Aarab nations will likely have access only to the middle eastern internet.
etc....
I think we could start to see this within the next decade.
