If you want to lose weight and that's all (which really isn't a very good thing in and of itself), then yes... reduce your caloric intake, and for what calories you do take in eat better ones.
If you want to be HEALTHY (far more important than what the scales say, imo!) then you absolutely must exercise, including weight training and cardio, combined with a healthy diet that contains a good ratio of carbs, proteins, fats (the right kinds!) and micronutrients.
They (that ubiquitous 'they') have invented multiple drugs that can make you thinner effortlessly, but it seems a long way off before they can make one that'll get you fitter effortlessly.
