This little adventure could have been presented to the public as "we want their oil and we are going to grind them into submission to get it". What would you guess? We have 20% or 30% conscienceless neanderthals who would have supported it?
It may be easy to fool the American public for a while, but I believe that the majority of the invasion's supporters sincerely felt that the US was on the moral high ground. That was after all, what they were being told.
Not only isn't it surprising then that many are disgusted by the way some troops have behaved, but it is also reassuring. Could a country really be a source of pride if its people condoned this kind of behaviour?
