I read my hometown paper and was shocked to see a story where a woman had her baby taken away by the county because she supposedly made threats against the child when she was pregnant.

Albeit if it was true I could see some cause for concern but get this:

The county goes into the hospital, takes the baby from the nursery because " The suspect had made threats against the child while pregnant and hadn't followed her prescribed mental illness therapy. "

Sounds somewhat okay BUT:

The woman had NEVER been professionally diagnosed as having any mental illness whatsoever NOR was on any therapy in the first place! Add to that, the so-called 'credible witnesses' who reported this woman as saying these things is only 'hearsay'. According to the story she supposedly had made these threats throughout her pregnancy that the county was supposedly aware of all the time but for some dumbass reason didn't act beforehand?

So in true journalistic spirit, the story got pulled from the front page website and disappeared.

She 'had' a public defender, but soon as the word got out she's got more lawyers on her side than a pharmaceutical company.

What would you have done had the state taken your kid on hearsay evidence?
