I've seen what drives kids to do these things. Either to themselves or to others. The sad thing is that when kids hurt themselves, they are seen as weak. It's a shame they had to go and hurt others for people to finally notice that something is wrong in our schools.

I remember the shitstorm that hit my email box when I wrote an article about the Columbine killings and how I sympathetic to Klebold and Harris (I wasn't condoning what they did, but I went to school with a lot of kids who very well could have ended up doing what they did). Kids get picked on and picked on in school and no one does a thing about. Eventually, these kids fell they have nothing to live for and nothing to lose and so they take out a couple classmates with them and then people start asking "why?" and suggest counseling...a little too fucking late
5 years later and I'm still pissed about the whole thing.
