Whenever I feel on onset of anxiety, I try to imagine I am standing in a forest, directly under a tree- among many.
The anxiety is me looking straight up into the leaves, and being aware of all the individual movements, the spaces between leaves, etc.
I force myself to look straight ahead at all the other trees and ignore the details, just take the forest for what it is. Millions of different leaves that are outside of my control and don't need to be observed.
If that makes any sense.
I know when you're in the middle of an attack, it seems impossible to get out of it, and it sounds ludicrous, but mind over matter is no joke.
