The reason no one knows if he was alive or dead is because their was NO rescue attempted made for him, Chenny declared him dead the day after the war started on national TV, his name was not on the Red Cross prisoners list for release, nor was he ever listed as a possible P.O.W. he was however declared M.I.A, from K.I.A not long ago, and the intelligence from both analysis of the crash site, and other events from that night (radio squelch on the pilot emergency radio that was believed to be from an intruder pilot that was downed the same night, but he said he lost his radio) to the items that was returned from Iraq claiming to be remains of Scott (pilot uniform that was to old, 1 pound of human flesh that was remains of someone from iran-iraq war)
To prisoners at abu Ghurayb who claimed to have seen him, not to mention that pictures taken of the crash site show human made signs that are similar to ones that pilots are trained to make... etc
there is a lot of evidense he was alive after the crash....
