I just need to interject on this one. What people don't know is that tipping should be automoatic no matter what, even if the service was bad. You see what happens is that the server needs to tip out the kitchen for making the food, the busser for clearing the tables and the bartender for making all the drinks. So essentially, if you don't tip, the server has to pay it our of his or her own pocket for your ignorance. If the service was bad, fine, don't tip for the service. But did you have a drink? Tip for that. Did you eat? Tip for that. Even if the food was terrible, the server still needs to tip out the kitchen. Also, even if you just order drinks lets say, and you think maybe only the bartender will get tipped out, not true. On every purchase, everyone gets tipped out. At most restaurants the server is usually tipping out about 6% of sales. Say and average night they sell $1000, that is $60 they are tipping out. If the average person tips 15%, that means that the server will make about $90 that night. Now if you are the only table lets say because you are a large party and your bill is $1000, and you are a cheap bastard, then that $60 is coming out of the server's pocket. THat is why there is an automatic gratuity!
