You're right. I'm sure the world would no longer exist if it wasn't for the US. I wonder how they managed to survive all those years alone

Take a good hard look at Africa. Take a good hard look at who's spending the most money there. Imagine how much worse it would be, if the United States stopped paying.
The world would have survived without the United States .. But it'd be speaking German and/or Japanese.
