The American private military companies won't take dope smokers either.
Nothing is stopping you from buying some good ceramic body armor, flying to Kuwait City and taking a bus to Baghdad to apply to one of 30 or so little companies that have set up shop. They will hand you your AK-47 and Glock sidearm and put you to work.
Know that you life insurance policy here will be null and void, and many of the smaller shops can't carry K & R insurance on you.
You won't catch me anywhere near that sandbox until after they hand things over to the Iraqis on the 30th of June.
Mind you there are some nice opportunities popping up if you want to avoid the sandbox, I heard a whisper about guard jobs in the Caribbean for around $650-700 a day for a year contract.
