Got back from DC earlier today. Spyware is really becoming a huge problem for everyone, ALREADY costing businesses billions of dollars.
some of the stories I heard there from the panel experts are..
1. One expert had to format his hard-drive and reinstall everything because a spyware program took over his machine. Took him five days to reinstall all his apps again.

12% of Dell's customer support is spyware related, each call is long. It costs dell allot of money and is hurting their brand as users blame them anyways and fee las Dell computers are the source of the problems.
Some broadband users are going back to dial ups because they feel they have less risk with dial ups.

The government and the industry do not agree on what is spyware. Some adware companies want to call themselves differently although they are involved in spyware activities.
MS has a plan to help fight spyware in the new service pack they will release. From what I saw, this won't change a thing.
