The HIV ordeal... WHY the HELL...
WHY the HELL... do so many of the performers feel safe without protection, just because their "partners" (for that hour), have a clean test? Doesn't anybody realize that it can take months to test positive after being exposed? Most people do test positive in the first three months, the average is 20 days, but it can take 6 months or more to show up! I believe testing is important, but it still leaves a HUGE w.indow of risk. I think the tests are good for showing that someone is definitely positive, but a clean test doesn't really say anything other than that the person hasn't tested positive... for the time being, although they still may be carrying the virus.
Condoms have shown to be 98-100% effective in preventing the spread of HIV (when used regularly and properly). It seems to me that in an industry that regularly has sex with multiple partners, the absolute best method of prevention is a combination of routine testing, use of condoms (preferably used in conjunction with a spermicidal lubricant) and EDUCATION. Anyone that doesn't want to use a condom is at high risk of compromising their health and their lives for a few extra bucks. For the people that say Lara was young and didn't know any better, that's where education comes into play. These people need to be able to make educated decisions based on facts and statistics and if they are still willing to have unprotected sex for more money, so be it. I just don't want to hear them whining about it when they test positive. I thought the education part was a given... I can hardly believe that anyone would think they are safe, just because of a clean test... I believe most of these people do/did know the facts, maybe they just don't care, maybe they felt it couldn't happen to them, maybe they were just greedy.
It all boils down to these words, which I actually posted in one of the other threads:
Anyone that fucks without protection is at risk, regardless of what the tests say. We know it... the performers know it. It's like a game of Russian Roulette... you keep playing without the safety on, you'll likely end up losing sooner or later. I know that sounds harsh, but I'm by no means saying that anyone deserves this... just that everyone that takes that risk, knows it's a risk... and made that choice.
