But they dont. They want someone who will tell them that everything is fine, their social security is intact, we are winning the war, the children is learning, jobs are being created and the economy is getting better. Its simply too goddamn depressing for most people to be told what the status of our nation really is. They can't handle it.
The rare politician who dares to tell people what the real story is - will usually be labeled an extremist and accused of being un-American, a trouble maker, etc.
People may say they want one thing when in actuality they really want the opposite.

This is true... I'd much rather hear that things are fine and dandy. But lying about someone being an "imminent threat" when they're obviously not is kinda taking it extreme.
If they had just said that Saddam was a bad man and should be removed, then people could weigh that as it is... instead of having to fear for their lives from some impending doom from made up WMD's.
