Coincidences happen all the time. Everything is a coincidence with something else. Okay, I check into a hotel room and find that there's a small chip in the mirror that looks like the lotter L. A coincidence. Just not a very interesting one. And that's the point, the fact that most coincidences are unnotable makes the very few which just happen to seem significant look important.
Here's a story: my ex-wife and her office mate both went on vacation at the same time. My then wife and I went on a trip with her parents and one sidetrip was to Arlington National Cemetary. As we got out of our car and started to walk into the cemetary, we ran into her office mate and his wife and kid. Neither one had mentioned even in general terms to the other where they were going.
