But this is all theoretical...

That's true. This man that my grandmother worked with got throat cancer from smoking and after a ton of radiation he was in remission (or so they thought). One night he and his girlfriend were asleep and she woke up suddenly (something just jerked her out of her sleep but she didn't know what) and she looked at him and his neck was the size of a basketball and he wasn't moving. She called 911 but he was dead before the paramedics arrived. The autopsy showed that the cancer had come back and spread through his neck and it ate through his artery and that the artery finally burst and he bled out into his neck. They said he was probably dead within about 2 minutes of the rupture and there was nothing anyone could have done.
