There will be more soldiers die and the US will keep troops in Iraq until the mission is accomplished...or until massive numbers of American citizens take to the streets demanding a withdrawal and I would suspect this will happen if the numbers of dead soldiers goes into the tens of thousands.
If the mission is not accomplished then yes...the war will have been proven to be a mistake...and time (multiple years) will provide the answer.
The President's focus on countries that are perceived to be enemies of the US is his responsibility...thus he is full filling his obligation to the office that he holds.
I suspect that President Bush will be re-elected.
