Is exclusive content over-rated?

Obviously it helps but is it always worth it?

When you have a site with non-exclusive content, what are the chances that the surfer has seen it already, or even joined another paysite with the same content. It depends on what you have of course, but even in most saturated niches how much of a difference does it make?

I figured if you get to preview the content before you buy it, you have a much lower risk to get low quality content.

Non-exclusive, hand picked, appealing content V.S. exclusive, expensive content which doesnt turn out to be that great quality.. which one will do better you think? not to mention you can have a much bigger members area with the same investment when you go non-exclusive, which might actually help retention more..

anyone care to discuss?
