I'd agree with you if it was '95 but this is '01 - have you actually done any Java development lately? Java has come a long way from the days of cute browser applets. I'm no Java evangelist and I know Java has its faults but there are certain things Java does better than anything else. I know of no other OOP language that has so much support and is so portable. For example, I develop on W2K and deploy on Linux without even needing to re-compile - first time, every time.
I find it intriguing that you say "(Java) hasn't caught on". Ever heard of companies like Oracle, IBM, Sun, HP ? ? Ever done a 'java' keyword search at any on-line job database? Ever seen how many Java books there are out there?
I don't want to turn this into a pissing match but I just needed to set the record straight.
