can i sue my college for this?
I get NJ State funded financial aid for my college tuition. In the Fall, I finished the Associates Degree program, and this Spring I started the Bachelors course full time. New Jersey's finacial aid grant (TAG) gave me $6016 this year, which gets split up in half for Fall and Spring. In Fall, NJ/TAG paid out $3008 to my school, which was the last semester in which i was on the Associates degree program.
I just found out that supposedly I owe the school $2800. My TAG money never came through for Spring. It turns out that my college didnt update my records that I am now in the Bachelors course, the deadline was March 15th, and I find out about this now. NJ/TAG didnt pay for Spring because I was still setup by my college as persuing the Associates degree (which would put me over the maximum paid out for the associates degree).
The whole time, I was receiving mail from the school that implied my funding was perfect, including a detailed semester by semester payout schedule which INCLUDED the NJ/TAG payment for the Spring.
So right now the school is telling me to get a loan to pay the $2800, when I had $3006 of FREE grant money coming. It was an error on their part and they're implying I have to pay. The State won't pay out now, the deadline has passed.
Could this be a lawsuit? The school fucked up and now they're pushing the bill to me.
