don't know how to fix it, but i know how it's caused. illegal registry writes. i have no idea what they are allowed.

install Norton Internet Security (NIS) (i have family edition 2001, not sure what other editions there are..) and it'll detect such bullshit scripts and warn you when they try to do a registry write.

it'll also suggest to you that the script is potentially dangerous (as you've proved they can be) and suggests shutting down the script (which shuts down all your IE browsers).
