Yeah... I don't use Froogle... is it any good? I probably would start using it all the time if I ever started to use it.

Same with local.Google.com... I would probably use the hell out of that too... that's a nice one

There is a big BIG difference with Google and eBay though.

Afaik, eBay was an accidental surprise success... starting as a mom & pop.... Ebay had so many growing pains it just wasn't funny.

I remember when they were public and HUGE, they had billions in market cap, and they were still having crazy NIGHTLY network outages all the time and using (afaik) old code that couldn't handle the volume of auctions

.... I mean you have a a few billion dollars in the bank hire a network god and programming god for $5000 a day and build a redudant network already. It was like they were refusing to hire someone good to run the show. I think they had a small number of employees back then too.. with BILLIONS in the bank.

IIRC, It got so bad there were press releases on the very subject for months.

Google on the other hand was started from the ground up by the very guys Ebay should have been hiring back in the day to design their network & software systems for $5000/day

I think if Google launched an auction service, ebay's stock value would probably be about 1/4 of what it is now in 2 years.
