Israel has some very important sites for both Judaism and Christianity. These locations could be lost to Muslim's over time if Israel were left to fund their efforts on their own.
At the very least, religious people from around the world would no longer be able to safely travel there. That's what supporters of Israel are trying to protect.
They've got the birthplace, crucifixion and burial locations of Christ, the Wailing Wall, etc...

ummmmmmm, those are holy grounds for muslims too. There was never a problem (that I know of) with foreigners visiting palestine when it was a state. America kicked palestinians out of their homes so jews could have a country of their own "Israel".
