I disagree. Objectively, you can. This is an occupation, and no matter what you or I may see as the benefits of it, there are segments of that population who fundamentally believe that the US is just as 'evil' as we considered the Nazis. In our opinion, they're wrong of course, but let's not be shocked that they're willing to fight with everything they've got, and don't consider their 'liberators' to be worthy of humane treatment.
Saddam's regime was a terrible thing. In my opinion, it was great to get him out, but let's not now be shocked by resistance. And let's not lump the entire Arab world or Muslim faith in with an extreme segment of the population. I HAVE been there, for three years, and not within the confines of the armed forces or diplomatic corps... Seeing people refer to 'sand niggahs' and 'nuking' or 'flattening' the entire place simply makes it glaringly apparent why the US has such enemies to begin with.
