Check out the forums on doom9 or divx itself. There are some settings that will slow your encoding down and some that will speed it up.

Also, we tend to encode in off hours and batch process. You can do this in VDub/GKnot or in DrDivX. We will set them up by the hundreds and fire them off at the end of the day, and then QA them in the morning.
