Broke and others have tried to spell this out. I don't know why I think I might be any more successful, but I'll try.

1) The Georgia bill is primarily directed at stopping ritual female genital mutilation. THAT is a noble goal. If you know ANYTHING about this practice, you likely recognize that it is hideous and indefensible, and tantamount to castration of females - underage females who have no say in the matter.

2) Some numbnut tacked on the anti-piercing legislation. Why? I don't know. Maybe they meant well but were misinformed; maybe they were nuts. It's called pork, and it's rampant in all legislation. It's the reason so many politicians lobby for the dreaded "line-item veto". (But that's another discussion...and another board.)

3) The laws of the state of Georgia do not affect the rest of the US. (Thank the Powers That Be.)

4) The bill has not been passed into law.

I agree that the Constitution is being trampled, freedom of speech and expression are threatened like they have not been in half a century, and things are generally fucked up - but this little side of bacon is hardly going to bring the US crashing to its knees.

Perspective, people.
