It's a time-efficiency thing though. I could take any Photoshop designer head-on using MS Paint - it's just gonna take me a hell of a lot longer.
Text-on-path, gradient mesh, symbols, etc - these are vector tools that makes Illustrator shine - though it's still pretty rare I find myself using it.
Granted, I still use PS7. I know PS-CS has text-on-path and maybe other vector features I'm not aware of so my opinion may be moot.
