If it wasn't on his toe...

I found the following in an "Oddly Enough" online news article:
Quote:
Woman Buries Stranger Instead of Husband

BERLIN (Reuters) - A mix-up in the morgue of a German hospital resulted in a woman burying a man she thought was her husband -- but wasn't.

Neither the hospital in Eberswalde, north of Berlin, nor the funeral parlor noticed that they had given the wrong corpse for the burial.

It was only after the 62-year-old man was buried that hospital staff noticed the error. The corpse of the woman's 90-year-old husband was left in the morgue.

"We made a mistake," Bernd Grieger, director of Werner Forssmann hospital, told Reuters on Wednesday. "We released the wrong corpse."

An identification tag is normally attached to the big toe, but in this case the 90-year-old man had lost both feet, his widow said.

"My husband had lost both his feet -- they had to be amputated after a long illness," she told Bild newspaper.

Greiger said the tag was attached elsewhere. However, no one checked the tag and the funeral parlor did not notice the mistake while washing and dressing the corpse.

After checks at the hospital revealed the mistake, the first corpse was exhumed and the woman buried her husband.
I have to wonder just to what "elsewhere" the tag was attached.
