I'm not sure that, today, a harlot would be treated any different from a common hooker. All you're really saying is that the harlot believed she was performing a valued and/or sacred service, and a lot of prostitutes believe that today. And I agree with them to a large extent. However, being a harlot and a prostitute aren't mutually exclusive terms, as you imply. And, as I've implied above, being a prostitute isn't such a bad thing. I mean, after all, a gal could be selling whole life insurance on babies.
