On another note, I am presently reading the book, "Gollum: How We Made Movie Magic" by Andy Serkis, the actor who played Gollum/Smeagol and who they modelled the CGI character after.

Its only 117 pages long with incredible detail of how Gollum was brought to life CGI-wise and character-wise, and well as some real fascinating illustrations. The voice of Gollum was patterned after Serkis' cat, who was coughing up furballs. Serkis wanted to find where Gollum kept his pain and guilt for killing his cousin, Deagol, to obtain the ring, and thought the throat was best. And then his cat started coughing, so he patterned the voice after the cat!

He also patterned Gollum's addiction to the ring to fit the behavior and profile of a heroin junkie (times by 100 due to the power and hold of the ring). Its a real fascinating, behind the scenes read & I highly recommend it.
