I think it honestly has to do with knowing your traffic. Some people do very well with certain niches, while others can't seem to sell them to save their lives. I don't think there is one golden niche. It's more about exposing the right people to what they want. The cool thing about interesting categories is that you can mix them in with your regular traffic stream and see how they do for you.
