Most registrars nowdays (but not NetSol) use secure pages (SSL) for the logging in and managing of your domain(s). I consider this a lot safer than email transactions.
NetSol provides an encrypted passwd + mail system, but at least one email is sent with the passwd in plain text. Not particularly secure I think.
