Some help for you:
Digital cameras these days give good results, even on cheap cameras. Just point and shoot.
If you want 35mm, get an autofocus SLR.
If you shoot from a studio make sure your camera will fire studio lights. If a 35mm SLR, then all you need is a hotshoe connection.
Some studios have glamour nights, where you do shoots with others (at a lower rate). If you do this, it will be cheaper for you.
There are plenty of model sites and model message boards to ask for models.
