I have no idea how to set up a server, but there should be some good info at Planet Half-Life.
I used to hang out in the netmag.co.uk games forum. A bunch of people would normally find a server that wasn't too busy, and play on that. As we're all in the UK, we normally used the Wireplay servers that were mostly empty at night. I guess most people only play at work.
I haven't played for about 5 or 6 months.
Thought I don't think that the "empty server" method would work here, lol. As far as I know, all that is needed is a fast connection and it is possible to host a game.
