In some states he would have done better killing someone, and gotten off lighter.
Problem is now you're dealing with insurance companies and corprations. They don't stop. This isn't about loss of life, this is about 20k worth of kewels. And no doubt, they will claim he stole more than that for insurance purposes.
If they said 3 years, he may get off with 1, but hes goinig to jail no matter what.
Unless his lawyer is gtood and really pulls shit together, I dont see him getting off totally.

he didnt jack a bicycle, he pissed off some major players with stealing that shit. This is some Romancing The Stone shit man, people dont like when people steal 20k worth of jewels. To most, thats worth more than someones life.
This is only my opinion but, it was pretty dumb all around, let us know what happens.
