It grows on you. When i was younger i thought startrek was gay. Then i watched another one and it wasn't that bad.
It's quite clever and entertaining. You have to remember also that the series mature so you might not be so lucky and stumble upon an episode from the first season of The next Generation
and later a more advanced episode, which are usually much better
