Hey juicy...
Sorry to hear about what you've been going through. Anxiety can be a really difficult to deal with -- but, the positive thing is that it can be controlled.
And it ain't just all in your head. They've actually found that there is an independent autonomic nervous system that exists basically in your "gut" -- hence why a lot of people seem to get ulcers and other digestive problems as a response to anxiety and stress.
Cognitive therapy can do wonders for giving you some skills to deal with anxiety attacks. And it'll lessen your fear of becoming dependant on any meds to deal with them. Beyond that try to find some activities that help center you and relieve stress -- like Qi Quong, Tai Chi, Yoga...anything that's doesn't get your adrenaline going and that forces you to do some deep breathing.
