I know that a great deal of Internet porn is based on the user directly buying a membership or service from an ad or text banner.
What I don't feel is that advertizing in general works that way. My theory is that Internet advertizing is "supposedly" not working because the surfers don't click a banner or put something in their shopping cart.
What these advertizers and their clients are are not accepting is the Internet is JUST LIKE THE OTHER MEDIUMS of print, television and radio. I think they actually believe that they can generate directs sales from their ads.
How many times have you seen a commercial on TV and gone immediately out da house and bought da thing?
Advertizing is a basically passive tool. It builds name recognition, informs the buyer and (somewhat recently) allows comparison between products. But never forget, ADVERTIZING WORKS.
The Internet should be set up like the major television networks: Free programming and a bunch of ads. In other words, free ISPs that are supported by advetizing.
Sure, there should be pay services just like cable. But I think these online services that are changing their business models from a FREE service supported by ads to a paid subscription service are making a grave mistake. People won't pay for it just like they don't click on the ads.
B2B is a good idea, but it's not a force yet. There are a few businesses making green off of B2B and we are in one of the precious few.
blah, blah, blah
