It's highly unlikely a ban on guns would ever take place. Even if Bush never made it to the White House, or the NRA didn't exist. But say it did happen. You're looking at a long term fix there, not something that would change everything overnight.

Things are changing, slowly. With legislation that allows victims to sue the gun maker, the shit is hitting the fan. Smith & Wesson, once a highly respected name int he industry is being reduced to the point of contemplating bankruptcy. Their strategy of adopting regulation with the government in hopes that other gun makers would follow, isn't playing out the way they anticipated. And now, some gun dealers are reluctant to carry them.
