HERE are 14 foods to help you live longer.

According to a craze sweeping the US, these so-called superfoods can add years to your life.

Instead of the meaty fry-ups of the Atkins Diet, health-conscious Americans now tuck in to spinach, oats and walnuts.

Dr Steven Pratt, who designed the diet, said: ?These foods prevent disease and extend our health span, and perhaps our life span as well.?

His research shows the foods could prevent or even reverse heart diseases, diabetes, dementia and cancer.

Dr Pratt?s book SuperFoods: Fourteen Foods That Will Change Your Life is a best-seller and he has achieved TV fame, starring on an Oprah Winfrey special.

But he admits that simply eating the right things will not guarantee good health.

He recommends 30 to 60 minutes a day of aerobic exercise and weight training two to three times a week.
