As far as other console games that are great. "Lunar - The Silver Star" is an all time classic, then there's the "Phantasy Star" series on the old Genesis.
Going back further, I'd say that Metroid and Zelda on the old NES are definately classic. I wonder what the new Metroid is gonna look like when it comes out for the new Nintendo Game Cube.

Phantasy Star was a classic. I loved the 2nd one, I never really had a chance to play the newer ones.
