Yeah its a real treat to have to figure out stuff when moving. We have to move client sites alot since they always get these 'great deals'. lol That cache thing can really screw with your head. I understand it yet it still makes no sense after 7 yrs of online work. Sort of like if you really try to comprehend the whole Universe with us just being one small bit can really boggle you. We never tell old hosts we're moving a site either. First you want to make sure you copy off a new fresh copy of the site/s to put up on the new host. Swap it, wait a few days and then delete your content from the old host. 3 days is usally workable.
Thats if ppl have their browsers set to always seek new. I think the default on most browsers is every few days tho. I learned that one in 94 when a friend kept telling us about a sale he had on his site and the browser kept showing the same old stuff. Emptying temps and defragging besides the browser settings are really important in this biz. Go Norton! lol
